Hey Guys, I am happy to announce that my first Orthopedic Medical Mission to Loja, Ecuador will be this June 15th!! I’ll be joining lead surgeon John Herzenberg from Baltimore, along with his wife, two surgeons from Israel, and 13 others from all around the world. In the course of 8 days we will be providing between 30-40 surgical procedures to poor children with birth defects. These birth defects include clubfoot, cerebral palsy and other orthopedic problems that have been neglected or untreated due to lack of resources.

I’ll be assisting in surgery as their scrub tech and need your help to make this all happen!! As you can imagine it is expensive to mount these missions as we must bring and fund all our equipment, surgical gear, O.R. drapes, cast material and medications.

I’ve gratefully enjoyed so much of my life, I’m excited to work to give a child back some of theirs. Friends & Family, I’m asking for your helping hand and please make a tax deductable donation to our cause and help this Niño… help another Niño.

Well that journey, embarks exactly ONE MONTH from today & I need your help!! I’m fundraising money to help fund the trip and it’s expenses for the children and their surgical procedures!! You will fall in love with someone who annoys you, whose orgasm face looks and feels pathetic. Despite all of this, there’s something keeping you drawn to them, something that makes you want to protect them from the harsh world. What you fail to realize, however, is that you are the harsh world. You aren’t their noble protector — you are someone to be protected from but it takes a lot of dates, a lot of nights where you question whether or not you are actually a good person, for this to ever resonate with you. When it’s over and whatever love is left is put back in the fridge like a sad plate of leftovers, you will finally understand that you have the power to hurt someone. You can either hurt them or love them and it’s up to you to decide what kind of role you would like to take on in future relationships. What feels more comfortable — being the one who loves more or being the one who’s loved less?

You will fall in love with someone who’s cold and always seemingly pushing you away. When all is said and done, they will be forever known as the one person you couldn’t get to love you. Unfortunately, it will hurt and sting worse than the good ones, the ones that chopped up your meat for you and picked out an eyelash from your eye and were nice to your mother, because love often feels like a game we need to win. And when we lose, when we realize we couldn’t get what we ultimately desired from a person, it makes us feel like a failure and erases all the memories of those who loved us in the past. It’s a permanent smudge on your love resume.

You will fall in love with someone for one night and one night only. They’ll come to you when you need them and be gone in the morning when you don’t. At first, this will make you feel empty and you’ll try to convince yourself that you could’ve loved this person for longer than a night, but you can’t. Some people are just meant to make cameo appearances, some are destined to be a pithy footnote. That’s okay though. Not every person we love has to stick around. Sometimes it’s better to leave while you’re still ahead. Sometimes it’s better to leave before you get unloved.

You will fall in love with the old couple down the street because to you they represent the impossible: a stable, long-lasting love. You’re trying to get someone to like you for more than ten minutes. A monogamous “never get sick of ya” love seems unfathomable. “What’s your secret, sir? Do you just say yes a lot?”

You will fall in love with smells, the good and the bad kind. You will want to wear your lovers shirt because it makes you feel close to them and you’re okay with being that PYSCHO who is legitimately sniffing their shirt in public. You will fall in love with sweat, certain perfumes, the smell of the season in which you fell in love. This particular love smells like fall. It smells like Halloween and a roaring fire and leaves and fog and mist and candy and food and family and whiskey and sex and the lint that collects on sweaters. When it ends, if it ends, you will never experience another fall without thinking of him, her, it. The memories will stick to the ground like a mound of leaves and will only dissipate when the weather drops.

You will fall in love with your friends. Deep, passionate love. You will create a second family with them, a kind of tribe that makes you feel less vulnerable. Sometimes our families can’t love us all the time. Sometimes we’re born into families who don’t know how to love us properly. They do as much as they can but the rest is up to our friends. They can love you all the time, without judgement. At least the good ones can.

This is where I’m supposed to tell you that you will fall in love with The One, a person who isn’t too cold or too nice. Their “O” face is perfectly fine and they’re not afraid to show how much they love you. This person is supposed to wait for us at the end of the twentysomething road as some kind of reward for all the heartache and loneliness. We deserve them. We’ve earned this kind of love.

So fine. You’re going to fall in love with The One. You’re going to fall in love with someone who will make sense beyond college or a job or a particular season. They’ll make sense forever and won’t ever want to leave you behind. I’m telling you this not because it’s true but because it NEEDS to be true. Everyone is entitled to this kind of love, so why not? Have it. It’s yours. Blow out the candles on your 30th birthday, holding their hand, and let out an exhale that’s been waiting for ten years. Do it. Now.

Awhile back I stumbled upon a travel blog of a couple traveling around the world for an entire year. I clicked, followed & have been inspired since. Realizing they were San Jose locals I instantly thought, “I could do this too!” Having shared my googly eyed story for the couple with @FancyMade I was static she coincidentally knew the duo! Well this week, she collab’d with them to surprise me today over brunch for a meet & greet! I’m all about people & stories so sharing theirs has only motivated me more! Has been me & us for some time ticking now. Us would be referring to the inner circle I have with my friends. See, it all started 3 summers ago when Sean (or was it Darius!?) and I were at Lime in SF on a Sunday Funday. I was speaking to this girl outside who happened to be the sexiest (at the time) gogo dancer I’ve ever seen rock hips on a platform and out of no where this guy runs up and tries to speak to her too. Mind you, I’m in the Castro District day partying so I immediately thought this guy was gay and felt no threat.

He adds her on facebook, then me just for kicks and a week later I coincidentally notice he’s in Vegas the same time. It was Darius, Sean and I which makes our past “Trifecta” (later adding Brian/Feldy to sum up “Quattro”..silly we were) and run into this guy at Encore Beach.

His name Philip Andres. Flamboyant & loud at first was an understatement.. but the biggest ball of fun and energy I’ve seen from a guy. He introduced us to his toe painted, short short board short wearing, 2 other buddies & welcomed us & the girls to their table. What I did not know to be anything else but a day in Vegas, our bond began.

Later I find the guys were straight. All of them. A little metrosexual but they were all & only about the pussy lol. They did this thing called ‘Pea-cocking’ (later realizing it was strategy from the acclaimed Black Book.. I was in awe.) I was oblivious to any sort “strategy” at the time other than walking up to a girl and saying “Hello” with a smile. They wore bright colors, some painted toes or nails and were fit. I mean 8 packed to my amateur abdominals still in progress. No homo, but I gave them props for the physique.

Standing there, women of all sorts would walk by and a lot would notice/feel the energy from them, walk up and ask “Are your toes painted?!” …boom. Ice broken, conversation has commenced & inevitable numbers were exchanged. Later realizing those guys they questioned & judged from afar turned out to be ridiculously fun & down to earth guys with a fun approach at doing things.

It wasn’t for everyone as you could picture but I thought it was hilarious and here we are now, 3 summers later.. 8 Tortugas (Turtles) and an ever growing circle or girlfriends & friends.. all feeding off the same energy. With a love for music, dance, food (of course) and the addicting camaraderie that we have all grown into. We flourish on inside jokes and ice cream to say the least.

It’s been a wild one. Over 16 trips to Vegas one summer, Miami for Ultra, New York, Seattle, Puerto Rico, and some even to Europe for their festival called Cream Fields. Endless summers & motivated, gym filled winters. When we’re done with the late night & early mornings, I look around and tell everyone I call it, Success. Well success it has been.

I’m reflecting on our story because when the run around comes to a walk.. and finally home where it’s quiet.. I appreciate all that we do. I smile at our pictures and group text the stupid memories we’ve all made. “The run around” though, is what I think I’ve found the end in road in. I and some of them know It was only a vice. Or what any single man would do.. go out and party.

I’m not saying I’m completely done with the ‘run’ but to end this introduction of my friends.. I’ve finally come across and found something worth coming home to.

Things happen for a reason and I’ve taken all the signs since the day I went single. This sign and reason for me to stop running around, has put the biggest genuine smile on my face I couldn’t hide it behind a wall.

I’ll finish this later.. but I wanted to vent out, how and what I’m feeling or have had in thought.. I think I’ve found happiness. Always smile, peace for now.

What I show you is the hologram. What you chose to see is your perception. What am I, the projector. Energy dependent, has a bulb that burns out from time to time & is not perfect. There is no reel of film or script behind this show. I illuminate your canvas with our story. It is just you & I. I entertain, connect, laugh & even cry with. I lose audience from time to time, but not every person is meant to be. My advertisement is my money maker & what keeps you in your seat is if & only if, I keep you on the edge of it. In the end of everything though, my credits have nothing to say but thank you for being apart of me. Our screen goes black, lights turn on & you are guided along. Bulbs get replaced, garbage is cleaned up & maybe one day, you’ll come back around, for another show.

You can make money back but, this you can't.

SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”
SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Oh! (With his head down).
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?”
The father was furious.
DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

DAD: “Are you asleep, son?”

SON: “No daddy, I’m awake”.
DAD: “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling.
SON: “Oh, thank you daddy!”
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: “Why do you want more money if you already have some?”

SON: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.

“Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Some things are more important.
